Peals of dreams
a sculpture by Bruce Krebs

versions

This topic allows all improvisations ...

The idea came to me seeing a wire netting in my workshop. A square shape. Tortured in the middle, it remind me a fight interns ...

It began with a " …If I made a double-sided sculpture ? A sculpture as two low-reliefs, back to back ?"

Gradually, the shape of the sculpture has started. The idea of sleep assert to myself, the square suddenly became a pillow ! I dug the wire netting to get a nose, a chin, a forehead ... This hollow was preserved on the other side.

(the idea to see the nose, the chin, the forehead, on the side of the dream was quickly abandoned)

(Two photographs shooted during the exhibition "2084 - fiction" in the library Michel Crépeau in La Rochelle)

On the one side we find a sleeping face.
I created a very smooth material.

And on the other side we find an illustration of her dreams
(perhaps some nightmares ...).
On the contrary, here, the surface is rough.

I started to compose my image when I had the idea of pregnant women. She takes her belly in her hands
(top left). Then, I thought to illustrate the different stages of life. Seniors, a little girl with her teddy bear and her cat (bottom right). Another girl who laughs ...
Also, there are several events. A car driving at high speed. Race horses...
As it was a bit of a disorder, I structured the image with stairs that go in all directions, and with foliage effects which fade on the edges ...

Here are some detail pictures :
